Back To Hell From Whence Ye Came

Many Christians hold to the belief that hell is an evil place, and that Satan lives in, or rules hell.

This is wrong.

Hell is, and has always been, God's place of justice.

It is, and has always been run and ruled by God.

Satan doesn't live in hell. No where in the bible do we see such a concept.

When Satan ends up in hell... that's the end of him.

Hell is the place of God's righteous judgement.

Satan and his angels are not in hell tormenting people. They are not trying to bring people to hell to serve them or so that they can have their way with them.

That is foreign to the bible.

---

So when we say things like, a lie from the pit of hell - that is wrong - because Hell is a righteous place.

What comes from hell is truth - because who ever is in hell is there because they deserve to be there.

When we say things like, we're going to send a demon back to hell - that's wrong, because the demon never came from hell to begin with.

Those who end up in hell don't come out except to be thrown in the lake of fire.

---

Where did these errant beliefs on hell come from? Who knows. Because they're not in the bible.

I suppose it can be a twisting of some bible passage or nothing but man's sheer vain imagination, like Satan being red and holding a pitchfork, or Satan being ugly.

As I think about this, a portion of scripture came to my mind.

Matthew 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Now, the Roman Catholic church (which isn't Christian), some how extrapolates the heretical position of Pope from this verse. But my issue isn't about that, but rather the gates of hell not prevailing against the church.

What does that mean? I can't remember if I've heard anybody preach on what it means.

Did you notice that Jesus doesn't say that Hell won't prevail against the church, but the gates of hell.

I looked into this and, I think, I understand what Jesus was communicating.

The gates of hell is the entrance. How does someone enter hell? Death.

So, Jesus says to Peter that the church will be built on the truth (rock) that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Death won't prevail against the church.

Why won't death prevail? Because Jesus conquered sin and death. Remember, death reigns because of sin. Jesus cleanses us, His church, of our sin, and gives us His life.

We have been crucified with Christ and raised to life in Him, so that death no longer reigns over us.
Romans 5:12-17
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Romans 6:1-11
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:52-57
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Wow... so much from such a short statement. But that's only because God has provided us an abundance of knowledge about what Christ has done for us in the bible.

With that being said, we should make sure to examine the things we believe. From important doctrines to the doctrines which can be taken or left. We should check to see if the bible actually teaches what we believe. And if it doesn't, we should have no problem getting rid of that belief.

After all, a true Christian believes that the bible is true, and endeavours to learn from and be obedient to it.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
